Breathtaking 12-night Chile, Patagonia & Argentina Cruise

As I gear up for an upcoming 12-night cruise, the decision-making process has proven to be quite the conundrum. One of the biggest dilemmas I faced was whether to opt for the cruise line's unlimited drink package. With a hefty price tag of $90 per day for each of us, plus taxes and gratuity, I couldn't help but wonder if my wife and I would even consume enough to justify the expense. After careful consideration, I decided to forgo the package and pay as we go. With some moderation, I believe we'll come out just fine.

The ship has confirmed the availability of water stations, and armed with our trusty water bottles, hydration shouldn't be an issue. Sure, we may have to forego the occasional cappuccino, beer, glass of wine or martini, but it's a sacrifice we're willing to make. Plus, we discovered that we're allowed to bring two bottles of wine per person onboard for in-room consumption, so we're all set in that department.

Yet, as one dilemma is resolved, another arises. The internet package – a necessity in today's connected world, especially for someone like me who needs to stay in touch with the office. Although bundled packages including internet are available, the lack of comprehensive information regarding the service quality and device limitations left me skeptical. Ultimately, I opted to purchase the internet separately to ensure I can maintain productivity while at sea.

Evaluating the Beverage Package

Pros:

  1. Ease of Access: Simplifies the beverage selection process.

  2. Budget Management: Fixed upfront cost helps control expenses.

  3. Diverse Selection: Offers a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

  4. Cost-Effectiveness: Great value for those who enjoy multiple drinks daily.

Cons:

  1. Price Caps: Certain drinks may not be covered, leading to extra charges.

  2. Additional Costs: Watch out for upcharges and service fees.

  3. Suitability: May be underutilized if minimal drinking or frequent excursions.

  4. Overindulgence RiskTemptation to overconsume to justify the cost.

Considering the Internet Package

Pros:

  1. Staying Connected: Essential for keeping in touch with work or loved ones.

  2. Ship-wide Access: Convenient access throughout the cruise.

  3. Extended Trip Benefit: Particularly valuable for longer voyages.

  4. Flexible Plans: Options for individual or family needs.

Cons:

  1. Expense: Can be costly, especially for premium plans.

  2. Service Quality: Cruise internet may not match onshore speeds.

  3. Vacation Disconnect: Constant connectivity may detract from relaxation.

  4. Plan Limitations: Single device plans may be restrictive.

Decision-Making Tips:

  • Personal Assessment: Reflect on typical consumption and internet usage habits.

  • Cruise Itinerary: Consider onboard versus port day ratios.

  • Package Details: Review inclusions, limitations, and fees carefully.

  • Cost-Benefit Analysis: Weigh package cost against expected usage.

In the end, the decision hinges on individual preferences and cruising styles. Thoughtful consideration of habits and needs is key to a fulfilling cruise experience. Whether it's sipping cocktails by the pool or staying connected to the digital world, finding the right balance ensures smooth sailing ahead.
